make a forum for blogspot

A forum is good a starting point for building community around your blog .But what tool do you use to create a forum ?
- you can buy a host and install a forum software on it ,then adding link to this forum from your blog
- you can build a discussion board with some free service in internet
- you can use discussion board in Facebook fanpage
in this post ,I will show you another way . We will use a third-party forum that provided by Vanilla .This forum can stand alone ,or it can embeded to your blogspot as a page . I will tell you about Vanilla and how to embed this forum to a page in your blogspot ,make it become an element of your blog .

I integrated Vanilla forum in the live demo of Simplex Enews template ,you can see it here

here is steps to install this forum to blogspot

1,Go to Vanilla site at this address . You will see there are some plans for you to choose ,one free and the others are not . Free plan is very simple ,it's like a discussion board and lack of options ,you have no storage space for files ,no custom domain and logo ,no custom HTML ... But in my opinion ,you should choose this plan first before going to higher (paid) plains .

2,Fill all field in the form ,and choose an address for your forum . Each forum in vanilla has an address and you can use this to access directly to your forum .

3,After registering ,it will lead you to the dashboard . In the left-hand of dashboard window ,you will see groups : Appearance , Users , Forum Settings,Addons and Import .
-Use options in Appearance group to make forum look as you want .
-Use options in Users group to manage users of your forum and set roles - permission in your forum
-Use options in Forum Settings for make categories for your forum ,set the spam filter and see the statistics .
-Use Import to import data from other forums software to your Vanilla forum .
-Use options in Addons group for manage addons in your forum ,and embed Vanilla forum to other sites .

4,To embeded your Vanilla forum to blogger , from Vanilla forum dashboard ,go to Embed Vanilla option in Addons group . In the textbox Forum <Embed> Code you will see the script for embeding forum to other sites .Copy this code to clipboard

5,Go to blogger and login to your blog . Go to Posting tab and click on Edit Pages to create a new page . Click on edit to add content to this page .
In page editor window,click on Edit HTML ,and paste the script of Vanilla forum (you've just copied to clipboard) to page content ,and then publish the page .Now Vanilla forum added sucessfully to a page in your blog .

6,A little tip for you : if size of your page smaller than size of vanilla forum ,Vanilla forum size can overlap elements in your blog or break the layout . To fix this ,you can add some code lines to page content in step 5 like this :
<style>
.forum {width:600px}
</style>
<div class="forum">
Vanilla forum script you copied in step 4
</div>
change the value 600 to the size of vanilla forum you want .

That's all for Vanilla forum .I hope this post helpful to you .

                         <li><a title="Sub Pages 1" href="">Sub Pages 1</a></li>
                         <li><a title="Sub Page 3" href="">Sub Page 3</a></li>
                         <li><a title="Sub Page 4" href="">Sub Page 4</a></li>
                     </ul>
                 </li>
                 <li><a href="http://simplexnetwork.blogspot.com/search/label/blog">Blog</a></li>

                     <script type="text/javascript">
                         var newsfeed=new gfeedfetcher("list1")
                         newsfeed.addFeed("NYT", "http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/International.xml")
                         newsfeed.addFeed("Yahoo News", "http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/world")
                         newsfeed.filterfeed(5) //Show 5 entries, sort by date
                         newsfeed.init() //Always call this last
                     </script>
                 </li>

I will explain this code line by line :
-<h3><img width="16" height="16" src="http://digg.com/favicon.ico"/> Technology News</h3>
  • + http://digg.com/favicon.ico : Icon of news category.
  • + Technology News : name of news category
-  var newsfeed=new gfeedfetcher("list1")  List1 is the id of news category ,each id must be unique ,for example list1,list2,list3... if there are two categories with one ide ,there's nothing will be shown .

-    newsfeed.addFeed("NYT", "http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/International.xml")
      newsfeed.addFeed("Yahoo News", "http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/world")
 These two lines will add news from sources (NYT and Yahoo News) to the news category in homepage . if you want to add news from other sources ,you can apply this structure :
      newsfeed.addFeed("Name of news source", "RSS link of news source")

-newsfeed.filterfeed(5) //Show 5 entries, sort by date this line specify the number of entry showed is 5 . You can increase this number to show more or decrease for less .
That's the code for showing news from news sources into one category in homepage . By understanding what these lines mean ,I hope you can modify them as you want . You can refer to my post on Simplex News Aggregator old version for more detail because the code for showing news in these two template are the same

7,When you browse blog posts in  my live demo ,you will notice the sidebar in the right hand . Here is the code for this sidebar :
<div id="sidebar">
                 <div class="col">
                     <h3><span>Categories</span></h3>
                     <ul>
                         <li>
                             <a href="http://simplexnetwork.blogspot.com">Blog</a>
                         </li>
                     </ul>
                 </div>
             </div>
you can add the categories ,links you want to this sidebar .

8,Now ,you can upload template to Blogger .  There are many places for widget in this template ,and you can add or remove your own widget as you want .

Simplex Newspaper II update : Why Google Friend Connect can't display in blog?

Several days ago ,I have a comment and an email from Simon Jose N who complaint that he can't use Google friend connect in template Simplex Newspaper 2 , it mean he can add this widget to blog ,but it can not display . After 1 days for searching in Google and digging in my template ,I find out that the reason is in template itself . In template ,I used one javascript framework Scriptaculous for Lightbox effect ,and some .js files related to this effect conflict to script of Google Friend Connect and it the reason why GFC can't display .
Google Friend Connect fixed
To fix this problem ,we can simply add this code before </body> :

<script>
window.JSON = {
parse: function(st){
return st.evalJSON();
},
stringify: function(obj){
return Object.toJSON(obj);
}
};
</script>

That's all . I applied this tip in my Simplex Newspaper II live demo and everything is ok . I hope it will work fine for you .
With this post ,I want to appologize for my late replying to Simon Jose N and all people who met this trouble .I know this error affect to your site . And I want to say "thank you" for error reporting . It will help us make template much better .

Art Galleries and Contemporary Art

By Chad DeBolt

Places where art is exhibited and sometimes sold to make a profit of some kind are called art galleries. The difference between an art gallery and an art museum are simple. An art gallery is a place where art is displayed for the purpose of it being sold to make money. An art museum is a place where the most famous art in the world hangs, and it is not for sale. Selling art is the primary function of an art gallery because it needs the profit from any sale to thrive. Throughout New York, you are sure to find what you are looking for. Maybe it is within the walls of the DCKT Contemporary Gallery, where everything is unique.

A gallery exhibits art for the enjoyment of others, with the added bonus of being able to purchase their favorite pieces when the exhibit concludes. This means that the gallery changes frequently, depending on how often shows are conducted. A gallery often puts together a show based on the work of one individual artist with the option of work from other artists put together. Visual art is the most common form shown in a gallery, with paintings being the most popular. Artists who are sculptors or photographers are able to display their work as well. Unlike museums, galleries typically collect a commission from each piece that is sold. Rarely is admission charged, although there are some galleries that prefer to do things that way. Sometimes artists are supported by grants, and they are able to win awards and prizes. The Guggenheim Museum in New York presents the Hugo Boss award every other year to an artist or a group of artists working in any place anywhere. Hugo Boss clothing company sponsors this by presenting the winner or winners with a $100,000 check.

Contemporary art is a term used to describe the modern era of art. Though there is speculation, it is thought that art developed since World War II until present day is considered contemporary art. There is no reference to a specific style of art when discussing contemporary art. It is exhibited in many ways. There are contemporary art galleries, publicly funded arts organizations, contemporary art museums, or by the artists themselves. Most contemporary art galleries are found grouped together in certain districts of bigger cities, although medium sized cities are known to have one or two galleries for local artists. Corporations are becoming more and more a part of the contemporary art world by organizing and sponsoring local art galleries, and even displaying some inside their own walls.

Contemporary art galleries have been criticized because of their showing of art that is not considered by others to be art of this form. Art created by common people is literally what contemporary art is, but there are always skeptics somewhere. Contemporary art can be at odds with the world at times because of what is thought to be art and what is not. Respected galleries and other institutions are under fire because of the thought that they do not share another point of view. It goes back to the age old question of what is art, and what constitutes it to be so. It doesn't stop those ambitious artists out there who want to get their work out there, though.

Digital art is a new breed of fine art. Digital artists have forged new ways to express their creativity with their computer-aided tools. Digital art galleries exhibit of artwork created with the help of computers.

There are a number of categories available in digital art such as computer-drawn art, digital painting, enhanced photography, digital photo painting, 2D and 3D digital art, techno, and algorithmic art. In addition to artwork, digital art galleries usually provide a wide selection of digital art CDs, books, periodicals, and journals.

The collections in digital art galleries generally include specially designed 2D and 3D graphics, motifs, drawings, digital photos, animated artworks, and specially taken photos. Digital paintings, prints, digital imaging, and mixed-media works are the other items commonly found in digital art galleries. You can view different versions of the same photos. For the creation of these different types artwork, image-editing software, various scanners, and desktop printers are used.

Digital art galleries mostly come online. They allow individuals to post their own artwork in different categories. Many online digital art galleries provide for sharing and learning art experience. Some of them offer low-cost education for individuals who are interested in learning digital art and design software. Digital art galleries also conduct exhibitions and competitions.

Art print categories are generally comprised of angels, eagles, Noah's ark, Biblical events, Jesus at prayer, Christmas, and lighthouses. Most Christian art galleries carry songbooks, Christian CDs, worship software, worship resources, and videos. Sculptures and collector plates are also available. There are a number of photo art galleries located in the United States and Canada. Most of them feature mainly fine art photography, but some show other art media such as paper and textiles. In addition to photos, most photo art galleries carry a wide selection of videos, prints, and books. An array of stationery including bookmarks, greeting cards, and postcards are also usually available at these galleries. Some of the photo art galleries provide a wide variety of curatorial and design installation services as well.

Photo art galleries are greatly sought after for their personalized, friendly attention for art-selection assistance, archival-quality framing and matting, conservation and restoration services, special commissions, and installation services. There are photo art galleries that focus on particular projects such as thematic and historical topics. Many photo art galleries showcase a fine selection of religious photos. Sports, still life, fauna and flora, science, and fashion trends can also be the subjects of photos. Fine art photographs are excellent collectible items for a photograph collector. Single-subject photo galleries such as tattoo photo art galleries and nail photo art galleries are also very common.

Photo art galleries also conduct exhibitions for you to view and buy photos. These exhibitions sometimes focus on a particular artist or theme. Most photo art galleries provide online services for selection and purchase of photos. Online photo art galleries are also available.
